Our Story:

Artemisia is a fusion of exceptional styling for you and your home. For the home, we bring intriguing antique furniture and lighting from around the world complimented with American artisan works, architectural elements, and uncommon finds. Our carefully curated assortment is known to always have an emphasis on the uncommon or unconventional. Even with a quick glance around our store customers will see a mixture of old and new, with every item having a story to tell. Architectural salvage pieces, such as ironwork and old church doors, share space with recovered mid-century modern cow hide chairs, hand-forged light fixtures, handwoven kilim pillows, Portuguese stoneware, hand tooled serving ware and more. Our store extends upstairs to a second floor gallery space in which we showcase a number of hand selected works from local artists. These art pieces are displayed amongst our furniture collection, lighting and inviting displays so our customers can envision them within their own space at home.

Just as great design is the starting point for each home furnishing, it is “signature” in our jewelry, accessory, and clothing collections as well. We showcase talented artists and small independent designers from across the country who create pieces to inspire and celebrate the originality in everyone. In doing this we also seek to bring in emerging new designers instead of more commercial brands that you might find in other boutiques. When sourcing new talent we also strive to find fair trade, fair wage, and eco-friendly vendors since it is important to us to support ethical companies and sustainable practices. Our customers have really taken to this over the last few years and we have recently expanded our assortment to devote more space to these categories.

“What makes my store unique is the mixture of artisan goods, antiques and also the free-trade/fair market responsibly manufactured items I find. Whenever I travel I liken it to a treasure hunt because I’m always on the lookout for new artists to bring back for my customers.  Many of my clients come in after my trips to hear about what (and who) I’ve found and also to see my pictures to get a glimpse of what they can expect to see soon in the shop.” Debra Koertge

Artemisia is located in a 1867 building in the heart of the bustling downtown Geneva Illinois shopping district. Our store name, Artemisia, comes from the 17th-century Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi who was one of the few female artists at that time. Street parking is plentiful; and we look forward to seeing you in store soon!
