Artist and Sculpture Roelna Louw was raised and educated in South Africa where she wrote and directed award winning children’s television programs. During the early 1990s, she relocated to America, bought a few bags of clay and began telling stories in 3D. The result is a family of delightful original sculptures.
“I sculpt because I love it. The possibilities of clay delight me. I start with a thought or dream and a bag of clay. During the process I research, compare, add and subtract. Through my experiences I seek to capture the soul and story of each piece. Most of my work is figurative and is finished in stains and underglazes. I hope to connect to the viewer in such a way that they can explore their own ideas and stories that the art might convey.”
